The QIAquick system allows purification of nucleic acids (PCR products or DNA fragments from agarose gels) and it is based on the property of silica membranes to bind DNA molecules. In the presence of high concentrations of salt, silica binds DNA while contaminants pass through the column. Impurities are efficiently washed away, and the pure DNA is eluted with Tris buffer or water. QIAquick columns may be replaced by other silica spin columns, such as Denville Scientific SpinSmart columns.
All centrifugations are carried at RT using a benchtop centrifuge operated at maximum speed (typically, ~13,000 rpm or ~16,000 x g).
